This is my Camino. Welcome.

PLAY IN A DAY IN PHOTOS!!

HI HI HI HIHIHI!!

Sorry for neglecting the blahg for a few days. I was busy…making a PLAY IN A DAY!

Wanna see approx. nine photos? Of course you do!

(Or, if you don’t, you can just open a new tab and browse more internet, assuredly!)

And I’ll share my feelings at each moment, too. Nothing is too personal here!

group

Summary: This was the full group at the beginning of the day.

My feelings: So, I had thought about bringing upbeat music to get everyone pumped and active, but, as I set up, I forgot that step, so I wasn’t sure what would happen.

But, then everyone started arriving and the energy level positively sky-rocketed. These darling-folk don’t even know each other at this point, but there were greetings and laughter and love early at this earliest of moments.

I was like, “I love them. I love them all.”

Highlight: Just the energy level, I think, the anticipation that good things were about to happen, I was sure of it.

planning

Summary: Then we randomly broke into teams. My team went outside and sat down and laid out our plan for the day.

My feelings: I think I suspected there would be creativity, but I didn’t foresee the amount. So many ideas! Rescuing a princess! Forbidden love! An engagement without love! Intrigue! Disguises! CIRCUS!

Highlight: We were settling on names for our characters. The male lead would be “Crispin,” but what about the female lead? Hanna threw out “Evelyn,” and one of the guys said seriously, “I like it; I could see it on a wedding invitation”…which struck me as a funny standard. But, I mean, we went with it. ๐Ÿ™‚

Hanna

Summary: Hanna. My cousin.

Feelings:
Me: “Are you sure you want to be the fattest gypsy in the world and not the princess?”
Her: “Yeah, I think there are a lot of options for humorous character development.”

Highlight: When she commits, she commits. Thanks, homegirn. No worries that this one would back out on me.

Team-charcoal
Summary: I went inside to check on the groups. This one was recording a song already. ๐Ÿ™‚

Feelings:
“Awwww yiss, an accordion.”

Highlight:
“Our theme is pirates and…”
“SHHHH DON’T TELL HER! IT’S A SECRET!”

Team-navy

Summary: Other group. Sew cute.

Feelings: “Dang, they cool.”

Highlight: I could feel their creativity pulsing. ๐Ÿ™‚

Sitting

Summary:
Lunch break!

Feelings:
Dat Cantina Bowl from Taco Bell= my go-to fast food meal 4ever. Also, look at these cats. Ultra cute, right?

Highlight:
We all talked about our plays, the inspirations we had received, our characters. Just theater, man.

1

Summary: This team went and practiced again and again…on a porch nearby. I mean, it was on church-property, though.

Feelings: “I wonder if anyone lives in that house…”

Highlight: Accordion music pumped around the neighborhood. Om pa pa, Om pa pa!

3

Summary: Here are two guys working on more play.

Feelings/ Hihglight: I love their different personalities and the way they’re approaching art. ๐Ÿ™‚

deez-girns

Summary: Post-show!! Julia and Cristina. Having supportive friends is so so so wonderful, let me tell you.

Feelings: Probably, “Bahahahaha, these two trouble-makers!”

Highlight: SO, I thought I saw a tat on Julia’s neck, but she’s into that artist life, so I didn’t say anything. But then Cristina walked up and she had one, too, and I was like, “Well, that’s a coincidence.”

And my mind was like, “Did they get matching dragon neck-tattoos? I didn’t realize they were that good of friends? And why a dragon?”

But then they pointed out that they were temporary tattoos…left over from our retreat. They found them an applied them at one of the intermissions. ๐Ÿ™‚ These two, I’m telling you.

best-blog-fan!

Summary: AND THEN I MET A BLOG READER!! My first-ever! Like, someone who I encountered first through the internet!

Feelings: “No way! No way! No way! This is TOO SPECIAL! CAN I TAKE A PHOTO?”

Yes. I was literally that creepy.

Highlight: Laura said, “This is What I Wore Saturday,” which references ze What I Wore Wednesday, and I loved it! Oh gosh, was that a trip!

2

Summary: My SIL holds a beebee.

Feelings: We’ll just end this with two of the most gorgeous women to attend.

Highlight: Things of beauty, ya’ll.

Thanks for reading!!

In the end someone asked, “So, was it a success?”

And I thought about the creativity and the laughter and how no one stared distracted at cell phones (except maybe me, in my lameness). I thought about the piles of costumes people brought, the moments of, “OK, this needs to be pulled together…NOW,” the way my helpers set up chairs and signs and popcorn.

I thought about the people who came out to support, the love and community and I had to respond, “Yes…yes, it was.”

Thanks for everything, party people.

  1. I really really enjoyed this day. I have been telling people about it all week and they are like, “Wow, I wish I would have known about it.” You can see how little we thought of our gadgets by the very fact that there are hardly any photos (sans Kathryn) or videos. It will live on in our memories, such good memories.
