Augustus Tolton – Halo Boys Frameable
$5.00
Augustus Tolton (1854-1897) was born and baptized to an ensalved couple in Missouri. His father eventually escaped slavery to join the Union Army; his mother also escaped with her four children. In Illinois, Tolton met an Irish priest, Fr. McGirr, who allowed Tolton to attend school, despite the community’s unwelcome attitude towards the African-American student. Tolton decided he wanted to become a priest, but every American seminary rejected him. McGirr helped Tolton enter a seminary in Rome. Tolton expected to serve in the African mission, but upon ordination he was assigned to the United States. His priesthood was marked with racial discrimnation, but Tolton’s excellence in preaching, faithfulness, and music made great strides in building bridges across communities.
The bird pictured here is an Eastern bluebird, the official bird of Tolton’s birth state, Missouri, and a symbol of hope and happiness.
-The text reads: “Ven. Augustus Tolton pray that I may be resilient”
-The hefty coverstock paper is 5″x7″, artwork is a smaller piece
– Print comes with a description of her life history on the back
– The print is sold unframed, but, I made the paper a size that is super easy to find in most stores. I figured I’d save you the $ on shipping.

The “Halo Girls” set is my artistic celebration of the wonder and diversity of God’s call…to every one of us. <3
